Commonwealth Business Women

One of the outcomes of the Commonwealth Business Forum has been formation of the ‘Commonwealth Business Women’, which was initiated by the Commonwealth Business Council, BPW International and British Association of Women Entrepreneurs. This new group will assist in developing further business opportunities for women in business within 54 commonwealth countries. Further info contact [email protected].

Global Platform for Action on Sourcing from Women Vendors

Opportunities exist for women owned businesses to supply goods and services to multinational Fortune 500 companies. TCF Global was represented at the Global Forum Business Matching Forum, Chongqing, China. This International Trade Centre, WeConnect program is also supported by BPW International. TAX OFFICE WARNING ON SCAMS

Tax Commissioner Michael D’Ascenzo has recently warned the community to be alert to tax related scams in during tax time. Recent scams have included phone calls, letters, text messages, emails, bogus websites and even false job advertisements to trick you into providing your personal details and pay money. You can also report suspected email scams to the ATO by forwarding the email to [email protected].

There is a raft of new legislation changes that will impact small and medium enterprises during 2011/2012. Changes have occurred in regards to paid parental leave, minimum wages, the flood levy, Director penalty notices, trusts, occupational health & safety, executive pay, exit fees, water and electricity, NFP taxation, and R&D legislation. NEW SCHOOL-AGED WORKER RULES

From 1st July 2011, new rules for small business retailers employing school-aged students under the Federal Award system will have the opportunity to roster students on 1.5 hour minimum shifts (formerly 3 hours), but only where longer periods of employment are not possible. The changes will provide greater flexibility and possibly more opportunities for casual after-school employment, but small business employers need to be sure they are staying within the rules.

TEXTILE, CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR STRATEGIC CAPABILITY PROGRAM (TCF SCP) ROUND 2

The TCF SCP is a five year, $35 million, competitive grant program. It will support large projects that will build innovative capability at the enterprise and workplace level. Round 2 opened on 6 June and will close on 5 August 2011 at 5pm (local time). The program runs from July 2010 to June 2015. To find out about information workshops contact Clarisse.

Grants of up to $50,000 are available for each successful project and up to $2.5 million is available for projects in 2011/12. TCFWA / TCF Australia have TCF business consultants available that can assist you in your submission on a ‘fee for service’ basis. TCF WA / TCF Australia may consider consortium submissions.

WA YOUTH AWARDS 2011

The WA Youth Awards were established in 1999 and recognise Western Australians aged 12 to 25 years for their achievements and contributions to the community. Entries close at 5.00pm on Friday 18th of February. Contact [email protected]

WA Women’s Hall of Fame

Do you know someone that inspires you, some one that has made a difference not only to you but those around them, do you feel they deserve recognition for their contribution to the community and for inspiring others as a role model and leader.
